Henry Akins aka The Jiu Jitsu Computer - Black Belt under Rickson Gracie
If you didn’t know this past weekend was the ADCC 2011 submission grappling tournament. Held for the first time in the UK.
This tournament brings out the best grapplers from around the world. In past years you usually had to wait for youtube video’s or DVD releases to see what happened if you’re too far away to attend.
But thankfully Budo Videos has been streaming top competitions like this for the past 18 months.
So if you’re keen as mustard to keep up with the latest get over to Budo Videos and watch the replays.

Great photography from Manuel Acosta
I haven’t had much women’s jiu jitsu profiled on the site, god knows why I haven’t.
Nevertheless watching the women compete at the ADCC 2011 was awesome. They were so quick. Smooth technicians and displayed some of the most amazing jiu jitsu I’ve ever seen.
The guard work was phenomenal.

One of the matches that I was dying to see. The re-match of Marcelo and Kron, both technical world class athlete’s.
Amazing display of jiu jitsu.

So it seems lately there’s been abit of talk within my circle of some new developments. I’ve heard good and bad things said but…
Needless to say, I’m really happy to see this come to fruition, given that the person is such a kind and caring teacher. I believe it’s something important that he needs to do for himself.
I despise it when politics get involved of someone’s personal development. In jiu jitsu and in life, I think its pretty apparent that sometimes we need to check our ego’s and learn to be humble and help each other along.
It always makes us better in the long run. Congratulations Gigante on your new endeavour
Love the dedication
Training in the dark coz we don’t get electricity until tomorrow at our new academy =]

I love rolling. Its so much fun. Especially when you can roll with someone who pushes you and encourages you but isn’t a complete arse about it. Control is everything. Getting tapped is fun.
I hope I get tapped. It makes you better. Without it no-one would progress.
Imagery makes the world go round. Awesome photography by Guru
Looking back over the last couple of months with all the ‘craziness’ has made me remember how much I love seeing one of my training partners get promoted. Its honestly one of the most rewarding things seeing someone who works their arse off, get recognised.
Mostly what I like about it, is getting to give them a good old bitch slap to congratulate them and remind them that they better keep on their toes!!!.
Great photography by none other than Yuki Ishikawa
As competition day draws closer and the guys/ girls in the team are putting on the ‘finishing touches’, I’ll be making sure I’ve got my batteries powered up and that the camera is ready to go.
Until then you’ll have to do with Kuba’s action shots.
I’m keeping with my self defence rant.
I’d also like to point out that training for self defence doesn’t come with out all the awkward moments.
But it sure is fun and very educational.
